ETIAS: Facilitating Travel for LGBTQ women explorers in the EU

Starting in 2025, approximately 1.4 billion people from over 60 visa-exempt countries will need a travel authorization to enter most European countries.

In response to evolving security challenges, the European Union (EU) is introducing a new electronic travel authorization system known as ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System). Similar to the US ESTA program, this system aims to enhance border security while streamlining the entry process for visitors from non-EU countries.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will be implemented for citizens of non-EU countries who currently enjoy visa-free travel to EU member states for short stays. EU nationals and those with residence permits issued by any EU country are exempt from ETIAS requirements.

The EU’s decision to implement ETIAS is driven by the desire to strengthen border security and ensure the safety of its citizens. By digitally screening and tracking travelers entering and exiting EU countries, the EU aims to mitigate potential security risks while maintaining the integrity of its visa-free regime.

Understanding the EU’s New Travel Authorization System: ETIAS

The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is set to be implemented for citizens of non-EU countries who currently enjoy visa-free travel to EU member states for short stays. EU nationals and those with residence permits issued by any EU country are exempt from ETIAS requirements.

Purpose of ETIAS

The EU’s decision to implement ETIAS is driven by a desire to bolster border security and ensure the safety of its citizens. By digitally screening and tracking travelers entering and leaving EU countries, the EU aims to mitigate potential security risks while maintaining the integrity of its visa-free regime

NOTE

ETIAS is not yet in operation and you cannot submit your application yet (as of the date of this article: May 18, 2024).

Application Process

To fill out the application, you will need to have your travel document (passport) and a credit/debit card on hand. You will also be asked to provide your personal information. You can submit your application using the official ETIAS website or the official ETIAS mobile app.

You will need to have a valid travel document eligible for visa placement. Your travel document must not expire in less than three months and must not be more than 10 years old. If your document expires sooner, you should check here to see how it may affect your travel.

A travel document that does not meet international standards may be rejected during the application process and may also pose issues when you go to your flight company and they verify your travel authorization before boarding.

If you are from one of these countries, you will need to apply for the ETIAS travel authorization

Validity and Entry Conditions

But don’t worry, once your ETIAS is approved, it will remain valid for three years from the date of issue or until the expiration of your travel documents, your passport, whichever occurs first. It also allows you multiple entries to the EU during its validity period, subject to compliance with the entry rules described in the authorization.

Here is a list of countries that will require you have the ETIAS travel authorization:

Preparation and Considerations

Ladies, we recommend that you apply for the ETIAS document well in advance of your travel preparations. While most applications are processed within a few minutes to 96 hours, processing could take up to an additional 30 days if additional information or interviews with EU authorities are required. To avoid surprises, be cautious and do it with enough time, LESMON wants to avoid disappointments for all LGBTQ women.

Final Entry Decision

Note that having an approved ETIAS does not guarantee entry to the EU. Ultimately, border officials retain the discretion to deny entry for various reasons, even with an ETIAS authorization. The final decision lies with border guards, who may refuse entry for legal or security reasons. So be kind, smile, and I would even dare to say: – be flirtatious, maybe that will work. 😉

Stay informed and prepared at all times for your future trips to Europe with this ETIAS document. Ask your travel agency or directly with LESMON, who can also handle this procedure for you.

Important

We recommend that you take into account an important detail: by leaving the country on the scheduled departure date you provided when entering the EU at immigration, you avoid possible penalties. If you leave even one day later, even if it is only for an hour the next day, you could face difficulties re-entering any EU country. This precaution will save you many headaches in the future.
