Our Accommodations

Coyaba TropicalFor the majority of our Costa Rica Adventure, we will stay at the incredible Coyaba Tropical Elegant Adult Guest House. Our hosts, the owners, Mike and Paul are a gay couple offering a unique fusion of Jamaican and Canadian hospitality. Paul will fix breakfast for us every morning and we will eat by the pool and hot tub. Mike is always available for any needs that might arise.

We have the entire Coyaba Tropical Guest Houses to ourselves so it is our own private, tropical oasis. You will stay in one of the uniquely furnished guest rooms inside the two original Spanish Colonial buildings. Every room has an en-suite bathroom with a raindrop shower, air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini-fridge, and a personal safe. The buildings have been lovingly restored and updated with modern conveniences and each room is different and unique, beautifully decorated with artwork from local artisans reflecting the warmth and richness of Costa Rican culture.

Sample Itinerary

Day One

We will pick you up at the San Jose airport at 4 PM. You’ll meet your new friends for the week over dinner at a popular LGBTQI beach-side restaurant. We will arrive at the Coyaba Tropical Guest House that evening.

Day Two

Paul, one of our gracious Guesthose owners, will provide a home-cooked breakfast by the pool. (Yes, there’s time for a quick dip or a soak in the hot tub!) We will head out for a day in the sun. We’ll take you to the best snorkeling spots Manuel Antonio has to offer. Our experienced bilingual captain will be with us by our side as we explore the ocean and swim with hundreds of species of beautiful tropical fish. After snorkeling with the fish we will take turns parasailing with the birds over the Pacific Ocean. We will complete our beach time with a sea-side picnic. Later in the afternoon, we will return to the Guesthouse to rest, relax, or take a dip in the pool before we head out for dinner and then dancing at the APE Electric Social Bar, a popular LGBTQ hot spot.

Day Three

Another lovely breakfast prepared by Paul for us to enjoy by the pool. There will be plenty of coffee and time to relax a bit in the morning sun. We will travel just south of Quepos, along the Central Pacific coast where the forest meets the white sand beaches, to Manuel Antonio National Park. According to Forbes magazine, this park is known worldwide as one of the most beautiful places on the planet. It is the smallest national park in Costa Rica but has extraordinary biodiversity. We will provide you professional binoculars and our nature interpreter will help you spot some of the 184 types of birds and 109 species of mammals. You might see sloths, iguanas, white-faced monkeys, and capuchin monkeys. It is very close to the ocean, and we will probably also see large groups of dolphins and whales. We’ll have a picnic lunch and there will be time to sunbathe, swim, read, or relax on the Manuel Antonio beach. In the late afternoon, we will return to the Guesthouse to relax before going out for cocktails and dinner at Café Milagro.

Day Four

We will start our day with yet another wonderful breakfast prepared by Paul and served by the pool. After breakfast, we will drive to the pier where we will take kayaks or a boat (your choice) and float between the Pacific Ocean and the estuary of the Paquita River among the mangroves of Damas Island. There are four different kinds of mangrove trees and this is one of the most important parts of biodiversity in Costa Rica. Our mangrove tour finishes with a delicious meal. We will return to the Guesthouse and you will have the afternoon to relax by the pool or explore the area. We’ll get dinner and drinks that night at Emilio’s Cafe.

Day Five

We’ll be in the sun and water all day today! We’ll start with a lovingly prepared breakfast by the pool, then we will head out to the beach. We will kayak in the open sea along the different landscapes showcasing the beauty of the Costa Rican Pacific coast. Kayaking in the ocean will give us the opportunity to witness life, both on the surface of the water and under it, where we will see flying fish, turtles, flocks of birds, and even pelicans. In addition, we will explore some of the islands of the coastal estuaries. After lunch, we will spend the afternoon at Playa Espadilla, an LGBTQ beach. We will return to the hotel to rest and clean up before we go back to the beach for dinner on a sunset sailboat cruise. This is a wonderful boat trip along the picturesque Costa Rican coastline. You will see beautiful beaches and islands, dolphins and, if we were lucky, a humpback whale. We will anchor in a protected cove where we can swim and snorkel, eat a delicious meal, and admire some of the most spectacular views from the Pacific coast.

Day Six

Paul will prepare our breakfast and we’ll eat together by the pool. From the Guesthouse we will take a wonderful trip through the countryside to a typical Costa Rican ranch. Our professional ranch guides will lead us on well-trained horses to a spectacular waterfall where we can rest and even take a dip in the pool under the falls. A delicious meal awaits us upon our return to the ranch. Back at the Guesthouse, we will have time to relax or swim in the pool. Before dinner, we will have a short, guided journaling and meditation experience with our professional life coach, Aimee. After dinner by the pool, the evening is yours to explore. We will provide recommendations for night clubs and other activities you might enjoy.

Day Seven

This is our final breakfast by the pool with Paul. After breakfast, we will travel through the rainforest until we reach the private estate of a native Costa Rican family. Here we will experience their rustic farm and the beautiful natural mineral pools next to a small stream where we can swim, jump from the rocks, and enjoy a natural water slide. We will have fresh, seasonal, native fruit to enjoy while we relax in the natural springs. A delicious, healthy farm to table lunch will follow. We will return to the Guesthouse to pack our bags and bid farewell to Manuel Antonio. We will drive to San José and dance the night away at La Avispa, one of the hottest gay bars in Costa Rica.

Day Eight

After breakfast, (we miss Paul already!) we will head into the center of San José to visit the handicrafts market. You’ll find stall after stall filled with all sorts of wonderful items lovingly handcrafted by Ticos using local materials. You’ll find the perfect souvenirs and gifts for all the people you love. After lunch on your own, we will say our final farewells and drive to the airport. You will arrive at the San José airport by 4 PM.
